ABOUT
Where I started - Where I’m going
I started mosaicing as a hobby about 20 years ago. By 2005 I had appeared on several shows on HGTV, DIY Network and The Fine Living Channel demonstrating my mosaic techniques.I also started doing commissioned pet portraits under the name of Petraits by Mary, soon after I did public art projects for the city of Pasadena and Eagle Rock.
I opened my first studio in Eagle Rock in January 2009 at 4532 1/2 Eagle Rock Blvd adjoining the iconic Cactus Gallery.By 2010 I had shown my work at many well-known art galleries and the Autry Museum in Los Angeles. I also starting teaching at about this time and continue to do so to this day .
I became well known for my large Day of the Dead Calaveras and had become a perennial favorite at Dia Del Los Muertos festivals and events .I still do many of these events every year.My skulls are very popular and sought out by art collectors.I do a special Day of the Dead class for The Annenberg Foundation annually.
In May of 2011 I moved into a larger studio by myself at 1754 Colorado Blvd also in Eagle Rock . I was able to host larger mosaic classes and workshops and earned a following of dedicated craft mosaicists. I also had more room to do larger architectural commissions and props for TV shows. During this time I also startied to indulge my love of craft and garden art which I sold out of the shop. I did some community events and public art which earned me a certificate of appreciation form the city of Los Angeles.I was sad to leave my space where so much magic and happiness had happened but I had to give it up.
I moved the whole studio, which was no easy task , to my home in Glendale in February of 2023. I am once again teaching classes on my patio and still creating.
I have been doing more art and craft shows lately along with my former student Nancy Rowland .The future is looking bright .
